Surprise Proposal on the Lumberville-Raven Rock Bridge | Ariana & Dominick

Some proposals happen on a whim. Others require weeks of planning to make sure every detail comes together perfectly.

Dominick reached out to me well before the proposal, and together we carefully planned every aspect of the afternoon. From where he would stop on the bridge to where I would be waiting with my camera, everything had a purpose. The goal was simple: create a moment Ariana would never forget.

The Lumberville-Raven Rock Bridge was the perfect choice because it was already one of their favorite places to visit. They often came here for dinner at the historic Black Bass Hotel before taking a walk across the bridge overlooking the Delaware River. Choosing a place that already meant so much to them made the proposal even more meaningful.

On a chilly late winter afternoon, Dominick parked on the New Jersey side while I quietly waited on the Pennsylvania side with my long lens. Ariana had absolutely no idea what was about to happen.

As they reached the spot we had chosen, Dominick dropped to one knee.

The surprise on Ariana’s face instantly turned into happy tears as she realized what was happening. Through the emotion, she smiled, cried, and of course said yes.

The bridge itself made the perfect backdrop for the proposal. Its strong leading lines naturally drew your eye toward the couple while the Delaware River framed the moment beautifully. It was simple, timeless, and exactly how Dominick had envisioned it.

After giving the newly engaged couple a few quiet moments together, we captured one of my favorite photographs of the afternoon. Standing in the middle of the bridge, they shared a quiet embrace with nothing but the river stretching out behind them. It was peaceful, emotional, and perfectly reflected who they are as a couple.

One moment that still makes me smile came just afterward. Like so many newly engaged couples, they paused to take a selfie together with the Delaware River in the background. It was such a genuine moment of excitement, and one they’ll undoubtedly look back on for years to come.

From there, we wandered over to the Black Bass Hotel for the rest of their engagement portraits. Dating back to the 1740s, the Black Bass Hotel is one of Pennsylvania’s oldest continuously operating inns. Its historic stone architecture, charming riverfront setting, and timeless character make it one of my favorite hidden gems for photographs along the Delaware River.

Ariana and Dominick are quiet, reserved, and wonderfully genuine. They didn’t need elaborate poses or grand gestures to tell their story. Their love showed through in the quiet moments, the way they looked at one another, and the excitement they shared after beginning this new chapter together.

Between the thoughtful planning, a meaningful location, and one unforgettable surprise, this proposal was the perfect reminder that the most memorable photographs often come from moments that can’t be rehearsed.
