Grace and Ricky | John James Audubon Wedding Photos
There’s something extra special about photographing friends’ weddings, and this one hit me right in the feels. I’ve known Ricky for over ten years from our days working together at a mortgage company. So, when he told Grace about me, and they loved my work, I knew this was going to be an epic one. Spoiler alert: it absolutely was.
Grace started her morning in a spacious hotel suite surrounded by her girls, laughter, and coffee. Down the hall, Ricky and his crew kept things low-key, joking around as they got ready. Once the guys were set, they headed to the John James Audubon Center, one of the most photogenic fall wedding venues in Pennsylvania.
And here’s the cool part—this isn’t just a pretty place. The center is a National Historic Landmark, once the home of famed naturalist and painter John James Audubon. The grounds feature 18th-century farmhouses, rustic barns, and preserved landscapes where Audubon studied and painted North America’s birds. With vibrant October foliage glowing in the sun, it felt like stepping into history, making it a dream location for John James Audubon wedding photos.
When the girls arrived, Grace and Ricky shared their first look in front of a stunning maple tree bursting with peak fall color. The way the light filtered through the leaves made it feel like we were in a painting—fitting, given the venue’s artistic heritage. From there, we explored the property for portraits, using the low October sun to create rich shadows and golden tones. Every corner offered another chance to capture truly unique John James Audubon wedding photos.
Next up: bridal party photos. Their crew was full of love, laughter, and the kind of genuine energy that makes my job ridiculously easy. After that, family formals flowed smoothly—everyone beaming with happiness for these two.
The ceremony took place in an open field, framed by the farmhouse and that brilliant maple in the background. As I scanned the crowd, I spotted familiar faces from our old mortgage company days—it felt like a mini reunion in the middle of a wedding.
Cocktail hour did not disappoint. Guests mingled while a very special guest, Thor the great horned owl, made an appearance—such a unique nod to the venue’s wildlife roots! As the sun dipped, the reception came alive with heartfelt speeches from Grace’s dad, the best man, and the maid of honor. The dance floor stayed full, but for those wanting a slower pace, there were yard games and a cozy fire pit under the stars.
Grace and Ricky’s day was the perfect mix of history, natural beauty, and pure joy. Their John James Audubon wedding photos tell the story of not just a wedding, but a celebration steeped in love, friendship, and a little bit of history.
